While all types of massage relax and revitalize weary muscles and joints, vibrational healing massage goes a step further. Vibrational massage therapies, which are available at spas worldwide, aim to unearth and treat the hidden emotional causes of muscle and joint tension. In addition, vibrational therapies work to evoke a greater sense of well-being.
History of Vibrational Healing Massage
Vibrational Healing Massage Therapy was first created in 1981 by Patricia Cramer, the founder of the World School of Massage and Advanced Healing Arts in San Francisco, following four years of intensive study with Pierre Pannetier, a specialist in Polarity Therapy. In founding vibrational massage, Cramer incorporated the philosophies of polarity therapy into her previous therapies grounded in massage, athletics, dance, tai chi, light therapy, aikido and meditation.
Cramer’s studies in polarity therapy led her to the belief that the human body is a system of polar opposites similar to the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang. According to polarity theories, most people become entrenched in one polarity instead of experiencing a full range of living or a balance of polarities. The result is an energy imbalance. When the body’s vibrations are restored to a balanced state, energy flows freely and one can move easily without discomfort. Trauma often occurs in individuals when there is imbalance. Cramer’s goal in vibrational healing massage is to treat the body as if it’s a musical instrument in need of fine tuning.
The Method
Vibrational healing massage therapy is rooted in the concept that the body vibrates at a natural frequency, and that through the use of resonant vibration, the body’s natural balance can be restored. This natural balance is called the Fluid Body Model, and it’s disrupted by emotional stress and restored through vibrational healing massage. In vibrational therapy, blockages in the joints and ribs can be alleviated through vibrational breath work and massage.
In vibrational massage the client may be fully clothed or undressed depending on the client’s preference. Massage oils aren’t typically used in vibrational healing massage, unless a combination massage procedure requiring oil is performed. Also, some newer vibrational therapies use what’s called choming vibrational oils that adjust the body’s physical and energetic vibrations. Choming oil, which is imbued with the vibration of a gem, is used to enhance the vibrational healing experience.
Vibrational massage works will in conjunction with other massage therapies and complements other forms of bodywork including Swedish Massage, Trager, Cranial-Sacral and foot reflexology therapies.
There is no standard time frame for vibrational massage. It can be performed for as little as 10 minutes as a prelude to other massages. Alternately, vibrational massage can be worked into a full body massage lasting 60 to 90 minutes. Although clients may recline on a massage table, vibrational healing therapy is usually performed with the guest seated in a chair, on the floor, or in any make-shift place.?
Types of VHMT
There are three main types of vibrational massage therapy. Besides the traditional vibrational healing massage therapy or VHMT, therapists may use Samvahan or musical vibrational massage therapies. Several other vibrational massage therapies exist, which stem from these three basic vibrational healing philosophies.
Samvahan massage therapies incorporate principles of acupuncture or acupressure to focus on the body’s energy centers. Samvahan therapies are centered along the spine, which is thought to be the seat of the body’s greatest imbalances. Samvahan therapies closely resemble energy healing in that they may combine chakra therapies or crystals to elicit results.
Musical forms of vibrational massage therapy rely on the pulsation of music to assist with the healing process. Musical therapies include tuning fork therapy, drum vibration therapy, and massage accompanied by chanting. It’s thought that the therapist can alter and tune the body’s frequency with these therapies.
The Benefits
Vibrational healing massages revitalizes the circulatory, lymphatic, immune, and nervous systems of the body in people of all ages. Vibrational healing massage therapies evoke a greater mindfulness in all areas of life, particularly in the way the body moves as well as its posture. Vibrational massage restores energy balance and it calms people who are over-excited.
Vibrational massage is reported to increase awareness and help with the continuity of flow that’s brought to tasks encountered in daily living.
